Bapu Ji: Our Father #writephoto

This week’s photo prompt by Sue made me think of Mahatma Gandhi. A great leader, he is truly an inspiration for many. Here’s a poem that I tried to compose on the Father of our Nation, M K Gandhi.

India celebrated its 73rd Independence Day yesterday (15th of August) and this year marks the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi (2nd of October). Maybe these two things had their hand in inspiring me to write this piece.

Hope you guys like it. Do give your feedback.

Bapu Ji

It’s a tale of the time

When a nation was suffering

From a century long subjugation

A time of tyranny and apathy

When our motherland lay buried

In bloodied revolts and desolation

It was then that returning from South Africa

A mother got her son back

And the nation, its saviour

A father…Bapu ji

Bespectacled and clad in simple clothes

He brought with him hope and smile

His philosophies guided the world

And led it towards a different style,

As a peaceful means to an end

His doctrines of “Satyagraha” and “Ahimsa”

Were an inspiration

Amidst injustice and desperation

This humble man influenced

A great many world thinkers and leaders

A true Mahatma (great soul),

He strived for his motherland

And led our nation to its freedom….
